Who are the Italian Royals?! In the world of wine the King and Queen of Italy are Barolo and Barbaresco.  While the wine nerds of the world discuss the soil content of Burgundy, the Somms out there who really love what they're drinking know that Piedmont, Italy is home of true royalty. Both Barolo and Barbaresco are made using the noble Nebbiolo Grape. This class highlights the differences, similarities, and histories of these amazing wines.

This isn't a super serious wine class mind you...Justin Argenti, our friend and wine expert, wants to take you and your group on a little tour of some of the best bottles Italy has to offer.  This is a fun, and very introductory, wine class where learning about why we taste is just as important as what we taste.

Warm up - Mumm Napa Brut - (but any sparkling brut will be great!)

We will begin by warming up our palates with a some bubbles and a bit about the history of the Piedmont Region in Northern Italy.

Break #1 - a 10 min break to finish your bubbles and open your next two bottles

Wine #1 - Barbaresco  (we will be using bottle x, but any Barbaresco you find will work great!)

Italian Royalty

The Judgement of Paris in 1976 is known as THE most important moment for American winemaking in its relatively short history.  British Wine Merchant and expat living in Paris, Steven Spurrier, organized a tasting of the best Old World wines of the day, to be tasted blind, against the best that California and the New World winemakers had to offer. Stags Leap Wine Cellar Cabernet Sauvignon and Chateau Montelena Chardonnay (along with many others from the region) were chosen to compete. These two now iconic bottles won the competition, and thus thrust American Winemaking into the world stage.

This course is being hosted by our friend and wine expert, Justin Argenti.

Throughout this event we will smell, taste and discuss the two American wines chosen for this master tasting as well as begin with a short Napa Valley background with a sparkling palate warm up.

Warm Up - Mumm Napa Brut (but any sparkling brut will be great!)

In this opening we will sip some bubbles to warm up our palates and while doing so, discuss the region and what makes it so special. Justin will be happy to answer general wine or winemaking questions as well.

Break #1 - 10 min break to finish your bubbly and open your next two bottles

Anyone who has seen the film "Bottle Shock" will likely recognize this bottle. And just as that film suggests, this bottle is still drinking spectacularly.

Break #2 - 10 min break to enjoy your Chardonnay and prepare for the second bottle.

One of the most iconic Cabernet's available from the USA, this bottle is the very definition for what an American Cabernet should be . And while there have been many other amazing Cabs' made in the region since, this will always be the one that started it all.
